New for the 2016 corporate events season is an exciting new art installation at the National Trust for Scotland’s Drum Castle outside Aberdeen.
The exhibition, Northern Lights, is the second collaboration between the 14th century castle and Aberdeen Art Gallery and features works on loan from the city gallery while it undergoes a major refurbishment. Themed around light, and mingling modern art with earlier traditional paintings, the exhibition provides a snapshot of art in Scotland through paintings, sculpture and DVD installations.
Set beside ancient oak woodland, Drum Castle is one of Scotland’s oldest tower houses. Its elegant rooms provide the perfect backdrop for receptions, dinners, meetings and private gatherings. As well as offering private viewings of the exhibition in its new gallery space launched last year, tours of the castle and the medieval tower house can also be arranged for evening guests.
Rebecca Sloan, national hospitality manager, National Trust for Scotland, said: “This is a wonderful opportunity for us to share our heritage and play a part in ensuring that iconic artworks continue to be accessible while Aberdeen Art Gallery is closed. An added bonus is that we can offer something unique that brings an extra dimension to corporate events.”
Among the 30 works on display are Josef Herman’s 1954 work In the Canteen and a stunning 3D art installation, Floorpiece, created from paper, rivets and washers by sculptor Maureen Bell.
Last year, a similar venture was enthusiastically received by event organisers. Rebecca continued: “Feedback from corporate clients has been excellent with buyers commenting that it was a bonus to have something so different for their clients to experience. Many said they felt closer to the art in a domestic setting and they enjoyed the juxtaposition of viewing a contemporary collection in historic surroundings. It is an honour and a privilege to host this second exhibition which I am sure will prove equally popular.
Drum Castle, one of the National Trust for Scotland’s ‘Unique Venues for Corporate Entertaining’, can cater for dinners for 50, receptions for 150. A marquee area is also available for larger events.
