GIG (Global Infusion Group) has won the Festival Supplier Award 2017 for Best Crew/Artist Catering – the second time GIG has received the prestigious accolade in three years.
Chesham-based GIG, one of the UK’s leading catering, logistics and brand support companies, received the award at the Hurlingham Club in London on Thursday evening in recognition of its stunning performance at last summer’s BBC 2 Radio 2 Live from Hyde Park festival.
Announcing GIG’s accolade the audience were told: “The judges commented that the creation of this backstage catering space really stood out, that the menu options look very tasty and that their client roster included industry leaders.” The award was collected on behalf of GIG by Account Managers Lauren Joyce (left) and Kim Joyce pictured.
Though it was a one-day festival staged on Sunday, September 11, attracting an audience of 55,000 people, BBC Radio 2 Live from Hyde Park followed on the heels of the amazing ‘Last night of the Proms’ celebration that took place in the Park the previous evening. As part of their arrangement GIG had been assigned to cater the entire 8-week Proms season before turning their attention to the Radio 2 Live festival.
GIG created two dedicated dining areas in a ‘Summer Haven’ theme for artist catering and crew catering, serving up around 2,500 meals for the occasion. A team of 22, led by Project Manager Jayne Ashman, were on site on the Sunday to ensure everything ran smoothly including the all-important dressing room riders for the star line-up including headline act Elton John supported by Madness, Status Quo, Gregory Porter, LeAnn Rimes, Jamie Lawson, Andreya Triana and Travis. The festival was presented by DJs including Ken Bruce and Sara Cox.
GIG was appointed by leading music promoters Festival Republic to cater the event and challenged to ensure a wide range of superb dishes were available to artists and crews throughout the day to suit every palate and all special dietary requirements. GIG’s team had arrived on site a week earlier to carry out the load-in, set up and provide crew catering during the build-up – and then provide a range of mouth-watering dishes and refreshments to all the artists who performed on the big day.
In 2014 GIG division Eat to the Beat won the same accolade at the inaugural Festival Supplier Awards.
GIG’s Managing Director Tony Laurenson said afterwards that he was delighted to have won the coveted award for a second time. "Winning awards is really important both for our business but also to our entire team of creative chefs and back-of-house staff, who work so hard and diligently to ensure that every single event we are assigned to receives the very highest level of service with exceptional catering. It’s what GIG is renowned for and has underpinned our success for more than 30 years in this business."
